Explorers

Explorers are young people, aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fifth Section of the Scouting family.

Explorer Scouts are encouraged to take more responsibility for arranging their own programme and planning their own events, supported and guided by adult leaders. In the Explorer Scouts section, young people ( boys and girls )take part in many challenging, social, and fun activities. They can also work toward their King’s Scout Award, Chief Scout’s Diamond or Chief Scout’s Platinum Awards as well as participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

The Explorer Scout section also includes the opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills as part of the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where they are able to take on a leadership role by working, and supporting one of the younger sections (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs & Scouts).

Buckinghamshire has a strong Explorer Scout section across all its districts. Each district has its own way of providing Explorer Scouting within that district, some may be linked to your local Scout Group, others may be District based taking membership from the local area.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
