Who are we?
How to get in touch with us?
You can message us on our Buckinghamshire County Youth Commissioner’s Facebook page or get in touch via the images above.
What do we do?
Youth Leads are responsible for driving Youth Shaped Scouting in their areas. As a team, we are responsible for Buckinghamshire and have a team of District Youth Commissioners to support us at the District level.
We are here to support volunteers to embed the young people’s ideas and decisions into local Scouting. The youth Leads also play a key role in the county’s leadership and are on the executive committee as youth representatives. With the support from others around the Districts, we are promoting the YouShape Awards across all the sections and top Awards, emphasising the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the King’s Scout Award in Explorers and Network.
Everything we do is to support others across the county in ensuring Scouting in Buckinghamshire is as youth-shaped as possible, to inspire and motivate young people to work together towards a shared vision for the future of scouting.
A bit about Youth Shaped Scouting:
Youth shaped is nothing new, starting as early as 1907, and it’s about young people working collaboratively with volunteers to shape, influence and lead their Scouting adventure. Today, it forms a huge part of the Scouts Skills for Life strategy. All in all, young people who know how to shape their own experiences through planning, leading and representing, have a powerful skill set that will support them through their lives.
Youth shaped is all about:
-
- Creating an environment where young people take chances, and are able to learn from mistakes.
- Empowering young people to stand up for what they believe in and develop their confidence to lead their peers.
- Putting young people first and giving them the chance to work with Leaders to make a difference in their group, local community, and the wider world.
